The Astrology Pointing to 2012 (and Beyond)
by Robert Tippett
For those who are students of astrology (new and old), I will present several examples
(7) of the verbiage used by Nostradamus in his quatrains, which has astrological
significance.  In each of the examples, a timing aspect can be read, one making the year
2012 quite possibly marked as a year of significance.  So much is on cable shows
promoting an awareness of the Mayan Calendar, pointing to 2012 as the year the world
ends, that having Nostradamus corroborate that timing (independently) can be important.

To begin to properly understand Nostradamus, one has to realize the importance of the
individual lines that make up a quatrain (4-line poems).  The first line states a main
theme for the whole quatrain, meaning all of the following lines will support that theme.
The second line develops a secondary theme relative to the main theme, and the
remaining two line will also support that theme, as well as the main theme.  Line three,
following line two, often will clarify line two, while always adding supporting details to
the main theme’s statement.  Line four does the same, except it adds the details in
support of the secondary theme.  Realizing this, the astrological statements found in the
main theme becomes those of most overall importance.

I will only focus the light of astrological awareness on the lines that make astrological
statements.  I will focus that light on four that make main theme statements, two that
make secondary theme statements, and one that offers supporting details from line four.
All seven come from different quatrains, spread about in the first five “chapters” of The
Prophecies [Centuries I (2), II (1), III (1), IV (1), and V (2)].  I will focus on these
seven in their order of appearance in their respective quatrains.

One of the amazing aspects of The Prophecies is they are not as much linear as they are
circular.  In this regard, the ten “layers” of verses offer a three-dimensional aspect that
adds to the two dimensional aspect of linking quatrains telling a story, and the one
dimensional aspect of each quatrain being a stand-alone prophecy.  In this three-
dimensional aspect, one can search for one important (repeating) key word, and then
pluck out the lines those words appear in, and then arrange those lines into their own
separate story-poem-prophecy.  This multi-dimensional nature of interpretation is
another example that the totality of The Prophecies is beyond the mental calculations of
a human brain alone.  It is evidence of the divine at work.

In the seven examples where astrological words are sorted, Saturn (4), Mars (3),
Mercury (2), and Sun (1) each come up, along symbolic names like “the silver”
(meaning, “the moon”) and “l’Bow (or “the Archer,” meaning “Sagittarius).
Additionally, those identified astrological entities are accompanied by terms having
astrological implications, such as malefic, Scorpion, water, conjunct, elevated, joined
together, aspect, East, West, and will wax.  When each of the seven lines are placed
together, with those as main themes first, followed by secondary themes, and the one
line four statement, it organizes as such (in Old French):

L’an que Saturne en eau sera conjoinct,                      Line 1, quatrain IV-86
Les deux malins de Scorpion conjoinct,                       Line 1, quatrain I-52
Mars eslevé en son plus haut befroy,                           Line 1, quatrain V-42
Mars & Mercure & l’argent joint ensemble,                Line 1, quatrain III-03
Saturne en Mars son regard furieux:                           Line 2, quatrain I-83
Sol Orient, Satrune Occidental:                                  Line 2, quatrain V-62
Mercure en l’Arc Saturne fenera.                                Line 4, quatrain II-65

For those who do not speak French, these seven verses translate to state (as astrological
statements):

The year that Saturn in water will be conjoined,
Them two malefic ones to Scorpio conjunct,
Mars elevated into its more high bell tower,
Mars & Mercury & the silver joined together,
Saturn upon Mars his aspect raging:
Sun East, Saturn West:
Mercury into the Archer Saturn will wax deadly.

As one can see, this makes a story develop that is relative to one series of planetary
movements within a narrow period of time.  It then becomes important to discern if all
planetary aspects, as stated, are realistically possible within the same window of time.
This is done with the aid of an ephemeris.  My reference is
The American Ephemeris
for the 21st Century 2000 to 2050 at Midnight, Revised Second Edition
, by Neil F.
Michelsen, with Rique Pottenger.

It is important to remember that all planetary aspects are cyclic, meaning they will occur
over and over, given enough time.  This means that if the given time of writing is 1555,
when Nostradamus wrote
The Prophecies, any number of occurrences could have
already occurred, with countless number of future occurrences still ahead.  This is where
the totality of the verbiage from all seven quatrains is important (7 full 4-line poems), as
the details surrounding these seven pieces prove whether or not the prophesied events
have already occurred, or are still to come.  In this regard, this article will only be
focused on the future, and in particular our near future, from the perspective they are
still to come.

In astronomical timing terms, line one above can occur when Saturn (the Greater
Malefic) next moves into a water sign.  Currently Saturn is in the air sign of Libra,
meaning the next sign it goes into will be
Scorpio, which is a water sign.  The year of
entrance will be 2012, with the specific first moment taking place on October 6, 2012.
With
Saturn remaining in that sign until December 23, 2014 (with a short retrograde
back into
Scorpio, and final exit this go-around in mid 2015), The next full year that
Saturn will spend in a water sign will be 2013.

Line two is identifying the
two malifics (Mars is the Lesser Malefic) being conjunct
while in the sign
Scorpio.  The planet Mars is currently (April 2011) in the sign of Aries,
the first sign of the zodiac.  The planet
Mars takes roughly two years to make a
complete trip through the zodiac (as seen from Earth), such that it will next return to the
sign of Aries on March 13, 2013.  The planet
Mars will go through the sign of Scorpio
between August 24, 2012 and October 8, 2012.  It will be in the same sign as
Saturn on
October 6 and 7, 2012, but not conjunct.  However,
Mars will return to the sign of
Scorpio in late July 2014, while Saturn is still in that sign.  The two planets will be in the
same sign together between July 27 and September 14, 2014, with both
Mars and
Saturn within 5 degrees of orb (conjunction aspect) between August 17 and September
5, 2014.

Line three is then focusing on an element of
Mars, stating that it will be elevated to its
more high bell tower
.  In astrological verbiage, one cannot look at a chart elevation (9th
or 10th house placement) because a chart cast is for one moment in time, and within 4
hours that
elevated placement would be lost.  This means that elevated means an
increased strength through placement in one sign.  Since Mars rules both Aries and
Scorpio, and is exalted (a word defined as “elevated”), it is increased in strength by
placement in either of its natural rulership signs.  However, it is
more high in Scorpio, as
this sign is above the Ascendant-Descendant axis.
Scorpio would be the “home” of
Mars.  Thus, the “
belfry,” which has a religious aspect, as a “bell tower” to a church, is
then “
more high” than the home, meaning the sign of Sagittarius, which is the natural
ruler of the 9th house.  This then returns one to see an
elevated placement of Mars
being in the 9th-10th parameters of the Midheaven.

This ability to see the sign of
Sagittarius from a church steeple word comes from that
sign being associated with the dogma of religion.  Thus, the church becomes part of the
foundation of religion, in a social gathering, expansive learning environment (9th house).
This statement can then be seen to act to show a transiting
Mars, from its elevated
status in
Scorpio, to one that adds more elevation from a zodiac "chart" perspective.
The movement goes into a placement
high, from 8th to 9th.  The word “haut” can be
translated as, “haughty, lofty; noble, great, honorable; chief, eminent, excellent;
magnificent, most glorious; and of importance.”  These superlatives make comparisons
that can be seen to parallel the symbolic meaning of the planet Jupiter, whose worldly
home is built in
Sagittarius.  Thus, this line (a main theme statement) is making a
statement that
Mars will pass through two signs, Scorpio and Sagittarius.

With that expanded view, the time
Mars will spend in Sagittarius next will be between
October 8 and November 18, 2012.  This will be while
Saturn will be in the water sign
Scorpio.  This placement of Saturn will still be in effect when Mars will then be in
Sagittarius again, between September 14 and October 28, 2014.

The last of the main theme statements shown above begins with the stand-alone
statement, “
Mars.”  It stands alone because it is followed by an ampersand.  This
symbol, more than simply stating the word “and,” indicates an importance to follow.
That importance is then focused on “
Mercury.”  This forces one to understand the one
element of a separate planet.  However, when seen in the arrangement that has been
manufactured from a search of astrological aspects, this important element of the planet
Mercury must find relevance during the period Saturn is in Scorpio, while Mars is in
Scorpio-Sagittarius.

All astrologers quickly learn the most looked for, if not the most important element of
Mercury is when it goes retrograde.  No one seriously focuses on those times that
Mercury is direct in transit.  While Mercury is as important as any of the planets, its
quick movement, like that of the Moon, makes its lasting value diminished in transits.
This makes the retrograde periods of
Mercury most important in this search, because the
duration of effect is considerable.

Sure enough,
Mercury enters Scorpio on October 6, 2012, and then moves into
Sagittarius on October 30.  It goes retrograde on November 6, 2012 (while in
Sagittarius), stationing direct on November 26, 2012, having returned to the sign of
Scorpio.  The planet Mercury then proceeds through Scorpio and Sagittarius until
January 1, 2013.
Mercury will repeat this pattern, somewhat, between September 30
and December 25, 2013, going retrograde in the sign of
Scorpio between October 21
and November 9.

After having seen the importance of
Mercury alone, one looks for Mars and Mercury, in
the same sign
together.  This occurs between October 6-8, 2012, which both are in
Scorpio (not conjunct), and then between October 30 and November 15, 2012 (again,
not conjunct) with both in
Sagittarius.  Between November 6 and 15, Mercury will be
retrograde in
Sagittarius.

At this point, the fourth line above inserts another ampersand, placing focus on the
importance of “
the silver” (having an alchemical relationship with “the moon”), where
this is “
joined together.”  This conjunction can be assumed to be with Mars and
Mercury, again in the same signs as Mars, meaning Scorpio and Sagittarius, in the
periods narrowed by
Mercury.

A novice astrologer will know that the
Moon makes its cycle through the zodiac every 28
days (roughly), meaning it will spend 56 hours in every sign during that period of
cycling.  During the period limited by
Mercury, the Moon will only be joined together
with
Mars AND Mercury while it spends November 14 and 15 in the sign of
Sagittarius.  This means the first four main theme statements are pointing to those dates
in
The year 2012.

With this astrological slant formed from those four main theme statements, the first
secondary theme statement begins with the focus on
Saturn, and it being “in.”  This is
relative to the main theme of
The year that Saturn will be in water, which will next be
in
The year 2012.  The next full year will be in 2013.  The next focus is on Mars and his
aspect
.  The French possessive pronoun, “son,” is masculine in gender, and it is known
by astrologers that both
Saturn and Mars represent maleness, as both are positive (+)
signs, versus feminine (-).  The planet
Saturn is the “father principle,” thus it represents
a level of maturity, while
Mars represents the energy and exuberance of unchecked
youth, or commonly the male testosterone-driven sex drive.  Thus the
Mars aspect is
furious, or most impatient, meaning the Saturn trait of patience is being overridden by
Mars, having been re-energized in the deep motivations of feminine Scorpio, then
exploding into the masculine element of
Sagittarius.  Such "freedom" will be allowing
his aspect of unchecked energy to run furiously.  This state of activity begins to built
momentum between October 8 (after
Saturn in Scorpio) and November 18, 2012, but
continues until
Saturn upon Mars (conjunction) occurs between late-August and early
September 2014.

The second secondary theme statement then says “
Sun East.”  This statement is
separated from the remainder of the line by a comma.  A comma means one has to
pause and understand that segment, before continuing to combine two segments as one.
On an astrological level, in particular when a chart is erected, the
Eastern horizon is
represented by the Ascendant, or the 1st house cusp.  The Ascendant is the way one
projects to the world, as one’s persona.  When the
Sun is conjunct the East point, it
represents the first rays of sunrise.  However, soon after sunrise the
Sun moves into the
12th house, and into a subconscious state.  Having the
Sun in one’s 12th house can
signify difficulties expressing one’s true ego (
Sun), although the true ego is identified
through the Ascendant.

With this understood, the second half of this fifth statement says, “
Saturn West.”  This is
a way of making a statement about an opposition aspect.  As such,
Saturn is conjunct
the Descendant, or the 7th house cusp.  This, as a separate statement, is a placement
that makes for cold, restrictive close personal relationships.  If the placement is in the 6th
house, opposite a
Sun in the 12th, it could represent health issues, as the Greater Malefic
lurking in the house of health and service.

Combined, an opposition aspect is formed between the
Sun and Saturn.  When one
knows the main theme is about a time when
Saturn is in the water sign of Scorpio, this
places the
Sun in the sign of Taurus.  The Sun will move into the sign of Taurus on April
20 and remains in that sign until May 21, 2013.  It will be in opposition aspect to
Saturn
between April 24 and May 4, 2013, all while
Saturn will be retrograde (between 8-7
degrees of
Scorpio).  Beginning on April 21, 2013, the planet Mars will also enter the
sign of Taurus, and conjoin with the
Sun, while being within orb aspect (+/- 5 deg.) for
conjunct between April 12 and May 11, 2013.

The final statement shown above (number seven of astrological aspects) is adding
supporting details to the secondary themes just presented.  This statement is placing
initial important focus on the planet
Mercury.  We have already discerned from the
secondary theme stating “
Saturn upon Mars his aspect furious” as being possible
between September 2012 and September 2014.  This supported a main theme where
Mars & Mercury & the silver joined together” will be more specifically (for Mercury)
in October-November 2012.  This timing coincides with
Mercury in Sagittarius (the
Archer
) between October 30 and November 12, 2012, even though Mercury will return
from retrograde to fully transit
Sagittarius between December 12, 2012 and January 1,
2013.

This focus then states
Saturn will wax deadly, which means it will grow in its scope as
being represented by the scythe, or the Grim Reaper.  This becomes a perfect statement
for
Saturn going direct, before going retrograde.  In this regard, Saturn will have been
direct in
Scorpio, moving from 0 degrees to 9.5 degrees between October 2012 and
January 1, 2013.  It will go retrograde on March 18, 2013 and remain retrograde until
stationing direct on July 8.  This period will cover the time when
Mars will conjunct the
Sun, in opposition to Saturn in Scorpio.  This means that Saturn will reap during this
period.

All of this acts to support the concept of something serious beginning late in the year
2012.  The Mayan Calendar puts a specific date as December 21, 2012 (per reports I
have seen).  One has to understand that Nostradamus does not tell a story of such a
drastic immediate end.  Rather, he tells of a drastic sudden war that will begin, to be
followed by long periods of horrors and pains lasting for years.  The culmination of
those years of suffering will see the coming of the comet also reported as “probable” and
“prophesied.”  This means one has to recognize the timing that will bring about such a
beginning of the end of the world.  These examples show how one can see such timing
in the words of Nostradamus.  However, one must also recognize the astrological timing
is secondary, not primary in importance.

This is where the importance of astrology truly lies.  It is not heavily reliant on one’s
ability to calculate aspects, as an astrologer saying to a client, “You will have Mercury
retrograde making a square to your Moon” means nothing to the client.  The primary
meaning of ALL of Nostradamus astrological verbiage is symbolic.  Thus, when one
sees a statement saying, “The year that Saturn in water will be conjoined,” it primarily
states, “The year that Punishment upon emotion will be combined.”  Such a result could
be a violent lashing out of pent up frustrations.  Being able to read in the language of
astrology is the primary intent of all astrological verbiage in The Prophecies.
