There is only one word in the entire preface that can be translated to read, "prose". That
translation is among several possible translations for the same Latin word, "oratione". In fact,
that one word is the only word in all of the preface and the letter to Henry II. Only one word
was written, as an explanation of The Prophecies, by Nostradamus stating, "prose." That
makes that one choice of translation unique, to say the least.
There is another such one-time written word, which in Nostradamus' French was written,
"amphibologique". This can only translate as "amphibologic," or more acceptably, in
English, "amphibological". This word carries the definition, "two non-exclusive meanings,"
but can be defined also as, "of doubtful meaning; ambiguous." The word "amphibology" is
defined as, "the ambiguity of language," and "a word, phrase, or sentence that can be
interpreted variously because of uncertainty of grammatical construction rather than ambiguity
of the words used, as"John met his father when he was sick." The word "amphibology" is
rooted in the Greek word, "amphibolos," which translates as, "doubtful."
The context of the letter to Henri II, which can only be the surrounding text, given how difficult
the letter to Henri II is to follow contextually, is a perfect example of the uncertainty that comes
when one attempts to throw a lock onto one string of words, as specifically meaning this. The
statement that includes the word, "amphibologique," is amphibological. There are a
minimum of two ways to make sense of the words stated.
Nostradamus wrote, "Mais l'injure du temps, o serenissime Roy, requiert que tells secrets
evenemen(t)s ne soyent manifestez, que par aenigmatique sentence, n'ayant qu'un seul
sens, & unique intelligence, sans y avoir rien mis d'ambigue n'amphibologique
calculation". This literally translates to state, "But the abuse of the times, oh most peaceful
King, requires that such secrets events not should be public, that by enigmatic (or hard to
understand) sentence, not having that one alone sense, & unique (or special) intelligence (or
understanding), without it to have anything (or nothing) set to ambiguous not amphibological
calculation".
Now, along with the word "amphibologique," you should note the contracted negative
attached as a prefix. This form, n'amphibologique, says in one breath, "not amphibological."
This is then connected to the word before, which is "ambiguous." This is saying that the
ambiguity comes when there is not seen the possibility of double meaning. The word earlier
in that string between punctuation marks, "rien," is itself a word of double meaning. Without
the presence of a negative (ne), the word means, "anything"; but with the presence of a
negative, it means, "nothing." The negative attached to "amphibologique" allows "rien" to
read perfectly fine as both.
The essence of Nostradamus' explanation to Henry II (although no one, including Henry ever
figured it out to have meaning this way) was this: Due to the abuse that could come from a
prophecy of doom and gloom being perfectly clear, it is best to make it ambiguous. Wars
could be fought that otherwise would never be waged. Persecution could arise that would be
uncalled for.
The use of "King" even is amphibological, as the "most serene King" acts as the human king
closest to the Jesus bloodline (which, at that time, would be Henry II), making Henry a man
preferring peace to war. However, such superlative language is "the most peaceful Christ the
King," the Prince of Peace. Because Jesus will not allow the abuse of the times, the words
Jesus dictated to Nostradamus are ambiguous.
Nostradamus then explained that the quatrains tell of events that will be kept secret. In that
sense, when these events unfold they will be initiated as plots, which the public will not be
allowed to know. Those plots will be the real abuse of the times; and that exposure will be
made from the quatrains, because the events will be found foretold secretly, through
ambiguity. This ambiguity, which will become clear, revealing the secret abuses, is written in
the quatrains' hard to understand sentence structure. Within those sentences are many
statements that tell of the secrets and abusive events, because no sentence only has one way
of understanding.
The way to find all of this multiplicity of meaning is to learn the unique methods employed,
which opens one's eyes to understanding. This intelligence to see does not come from being
the most educated or the smartest human being; it is an awareness that is assisted from faith.
Jesus will tell the believer's angels to whisper the knowledge required to see the wealth of
meaning.
Without this special help to see what is hidden underlying the words, the words can mean
anything or nothing. It becomes whatever you want to see it being, just like seeing shapes of
animals in the clouds, or imagining a stain on the carpet looks like Elvis. If you do not see
through the ambiguity by allowing for multiple meanings, you will never see these events.
Those people will suffer the abuse of the times due to their blindness.
I hope that by now you are seeing where I am going with this, especially in regard to the
translation of in solute oratione. That is coming up next.
