Entry for November 8, 2006
Well the mid-term elections are behind us and it appears that America has made a clear statement that it wants change.  Change is the only thing that can save us from the end that Nostradamus prophesized, as told to him by Jesus Christ.  With this momentum for change still fresh, now is not the time to become complacent, because we will have to face huge changes still to come - willingly or kicking and screaming.  Let me dust of a couple of late 80s, early 90s catch phrases here, to let us know what is needed.  One is "out of the box thinking" and the other is a "new paradigm."  Having the Democrats running both House and Senate will be like repeating the last 5 years of the Clinton administration, where in-fighting led to threats of impeachment and no serious legislation achieved.  Why won't this time be better?  The same money sources backs both Republicans and Democrats.  I was looking at the Kinky Friedman website tonight and I saw he made some important observations during his campaign - one most people did not take seriously.  One thing that he pointed out was that he felt he had perhaps 8 times the number of contributors than Gov. Rick Perry, but Perry had 15 times the contribution dollars.  When you consider that Rick Perry was reelected as governor of Texas with 39% of the vote, Kinky Friedman got 13% and finished 4th.  The Democrat and two independents (including Kinky) garnered close to 50% total.  That means a governor is elected with a minority of the people voting for him - AND - when you see that less than 50% of the voters in Texas voted, he really was elected by less than 20% of the people.  Are you comfortable with someone making decisions that you will be held responsible for, when he, she or it is not voting and acting for the people, but for those mega-organizations that are seeking payback for fronting someone $100-million in campaign funds?  Think of how everyone of legal age loses the "right" to vote and gains the "responsibility" to vote.  We don't have the "right" to pay taxes, making that dreaded act optional.  We need constitutional changes if we are going to save anything that resembles the way things are happening now, in the future.  Maybe April 15th should not only be the day we pay taxes, but the day we send in our votes - every man,  woman and "child" over the age of 18 has to do it.  It is a RESPONSIBILITY.  Something like that might throw a wrench into the lobbiest calculations and make the Karl Roves of the world sweat figuring out how simple minds can be manipulated by propaganda.  Think about that for a while.  Many more ideas will be needed, so be prepared when the time comes.  Till the next time.
