In this presidential election season, where more debates are about to be scheduled soon, it is important to have all candidates answer this one basic question: If you are President, will you immediately rescend the declaration of war against terrorism?
This question is not designed to get a candidate in a trap that will make him or her appear weak and unwilling to serve and protect America. The question is designed to see if the candidate is lusting for the same unchecked powers now held by George W. Bush. At times of declared war the President is given powers by the Constitution that were never intended to be necessary powers during ordinary times. Since a declaration of war against terrorism is like declaring war against ghosts or Bigfoots or UFOs, it is a state of war that will never cease and can always be rekindled by tying a wild story to an atrocity.
We need candidates that are willing to say, "Yes. I will immediately cease the state of war we live under now. I will end the Patriot Act and restore Constitutional rights to American citizens." Until a candidate says these things, the candidates seek to gain the same totalitarian powers the Cheney-Bush-Rumsfeld-Rove machine has held. They seek to be equally unstoppable, in whatever direction they selfishly want to take this country. In other words, we will continue to be a nation run by terrorists, in the name of stopping terrorism.
